25th Annual Poetry Slam: TAKE NO PRISONERS
Saturday, April 28th, 8pm
Imagine: 18 verbal gladiators, standing dead center, engaged in a lyrical war of words
Flinging metaphors and similes, using voice and body in a butt-kicking, name-taking battle for supremacy until there is only one poet left--the one who will be crowned CHAMPION
This one’s going to be special. Aside from being our Silver anniversary, we have at least two former Living Arts champions and a two time runner-up already signed up with several other poets from outside of Tulsa and Oklahoma who have won slams before in their own venues joining them to battle for prize money of $500 for 1st place, $200 for 2nd place and $100 for 3rd place. Admission is $10 in advance, $12 at the door. $5 to compete

There will be five judges chosen at random from the audience, as long as they have no more than a casual connection to any of the participants; all participants will have a chance to observe and approve the judges. Judges will score each poem on a scale of 1-10, decimals included (ex. 9.1, 8.5, 7.7). The highest and lowest scores will be dropped, making 30 the highest possible score, which means all tens. There is a three (3) minute time limit for each poem, with a ten (10) second grace period. Anything over the 10 second grace period will result in a 0.5 deduction from your total score for each 10 second time period beyond the limit. Time begins the moment you start speaking. In a Living Arts Slam PROPS ARE ALLOWED!
There will be three rounds of competition. The first round, all participants take their turn at the mic. After judging and totaling of scores, the top 8 scoring poets will advance to the second round (unless there are 12 or fewer competitors, then all advance to the second round). Poets will keep their scores from the first round and have them added to their second round scores. 2nd round the poet order is highest score first and lowest score goes up last. The top 4 cumulative scorers will advance to the final round and we will again draw numbers to determine order. Everyone starts anew and the highest scores for the final round determine the first, second and third place winners.
Doors open at 8pm, show starts at 9pm.
