New Arts Camp 2020

New Arts Camp is a five-session camp where students are able to participate in a specific genre of contemporary art during each session.  Students will participate in disciplines ranging from performing arts and digital creation to site-specific art and storytelling.  All camp sessions will culminate in a collaborative exhibition for the First Friday Art Crawl in August.


CAMP COST: $90 a session + $35 for aftercare, if needed from 4:30-5:30 PM

Camp Information:

Session 1: Poetry and Spoken Word (June 9-12)

  • Students will spend time with local Tulsa artists and work on creating poetry of their own as well as gaining experience in performing their own words. Students will learn about character development, scene creation, and the importance of storytelling.
  • Age Range: 12 – 18

Session 2: Site Specific Works with Scott Taylor (June 23-26)

  • Students will join Scott Taylor as he creates another mural in downtown Tulsa – although this time he will be guiding them through the practices required to create a piece on such a large scale. Students will engage with a public place in the Tulsa Arts District and create a collaborative mural that will endure beyond camp. Students will learn the importance of contemporary art forms as well as understanding the importance of community engagement with the arts.
  • Age Range: 13 – 18

Session 3: New Music Camp (July 7-10)

  • Students will work with local musicians to gain a better understanding of how music influences their daily lives. They will be exposed to numerous genres of music as well as gaining an understanding of the work that goes into being a musician.
  • Age Range: 12 – 18

Session 4: Littles Camp with Lauren “Rainbow” Lunsford (July 21-24)

  • “Gettin Galactic” – We will explore and talk about our solar system, planets, stars and nebulas. Then we will create a large (mural size) backdrop Galaxy on Canvas as a collaborated piece as we listen to a galactic soundtrack. Each student will design either a Neon UFO or NASA Style Craft on an 8×10 canvas that will fly in the galaxy. All the planets will be painted on circle lanterns and glow in the dark moons and stars to accentuate. Students will be given a black paint shirt to work on the set and the last day we will splatter paint, stencil and galactic it up!
  • Age Range: 5 – 7

Session 5: Visual Arts Camp (August 4-7)

  • Students will learn about various genres of visual art. Students will work with various contemporary artists to learn about the numerous disciplines of visual art and how they interact within the discipline.
  • Age Range: 12 – 18
