Helena Thevenot
AN INTRODUCTION TO BUTOH MOVEMENT WORKSHOP
Based on the rigorous training used in Butoh, a Japanese avant-garde dance-theater technique, we will develop the muscle of imagination, increase physical endurance, condition the senses and find emotional connectivity. The human being as a whole is the instrument of a performer. Every part of this instrument must be investigated, integrated and developed. Through mind-body awareness and exploration, discipline and training the performer can expand his/her capacities to be responsive and be in condition to meet the physical and emotional demands of their journey on stage. Ultimately, this workshop is designed to provide you with an opportunity to gain insights into your mind-body connections; physical sensations, emotions and desires revealing the source and sustenance to your artistic expression. Cotton pants and top, layers are a good idea. Proper support for low jumps, loose fitting clothes, bare feet, no jewelry.

Jeff Falk
TRUE LIVE ADVENTURES
This performance art workshop includes a basic discussion of artists and others (from North American Indian belief systems to the European Dadaists of the early 20th century) that have influenced artists to pursue their work in a performance format. Falk will also talk about the concept of 'myth' and how our own life experiences become our own personal mythology that can be shared with others. The workshop will teach people how to transform experiences from their lives into their performance based artforms.

Jeff Falk has practiced as a performance artist since 1984. He has presented his spoken word/physical action pieces at a variety of venues including the: 1995 Cleveland Performance Art Festival, Arizona State University, University of New Mexico, University of Arizona, University of Colorado and the Phoenix Art Museum to name but a few. His presentations involve costumes, props and the telling of strange stories at which he is greatly amused. He has also collaborated on various CD recordings and video pieces that are based upon his stories.
Saturday Oct. 4th 3:30-5pm At Living Arts.
