DEERPEOPLE Bio:
From the catacombs of Stillwater, Oklahoma and the furthest reaches of space... In early 2009, a group of friends got together and started writing music. Eventually, they decided to call it DEERPEOPLE. Over the following year, they refined the songs by playing house parties and small local venues in Stillwater, OK where the audience could be right on top of them. In addition to playing shows with Oklahoma’s own Evangelicals, Starlight Mints, Sherree Chamberlain and Jesse Tabish (Other Lives), they were invited to headline the Opolis stage at the 3rd annual Norman Music Festival in Spring 2010, and to perform in the home of Garth Brooks. The band has continued to play throughout the midwest, including an appearance at Oklahoma’s Buffalo Lounge at SXSW11. The DEERPEOPLE EP was recorded at Trent Bell Labs with Trent, who has engineered many stand out projects including 2009’s re-imagining of The Dark Side of The Moon by The Flaming Lips. The band is now wrapping up a second EP at Bell Labs, which is planned for release in Fall 2011.
THE DRAMA DEPARTMENT Bio:
The Drama Dept. is comprised of multiple artists of various disciplines from around the state of Oklahoma. What began with several friends discussing ways in which to collaborate has since culminated in a series of productions seen at Austin’s South By Southwest, Norman Music Festival, and Living Arts of Tulsa at Café Kzany in October, 11. The members of The Drama Dept. share an enthusiasm for life-sized puppets, late-night crafting, and a DIY sensibility. The Drama Dept. have been sharing their creations and engaging audiences since early 2011.
ARTISTS’ STATEMENT:
As a group of friends with various artistic abilities we have attended a multitude of musical performances and art shows. While we have been both impressed and inspired by what we have seen, nothing we have come across has lived up to our own desires. Understanding that our own ideas will never be realized are we not the ones to realize them ourselves, we are doing just that. With a shared passion for music and theater, and a wicked sense of humor, we craft interpretive performances based on the music of our dear friends DEERPEOPLE. Our intention is to engage the audience, making them a part of a shared experience that while understood, leaves them wondering what in the world they have just seen and begging for more.
